Write for Us
Been somewhere worth writing about?
Someone out there is planning the exact trip you just came back from. Tell them what you actually found.
Most travel content is written for everyone, which means it is useful for no one. Travel Pen works differently. Every story is tagged by destination and reason for going, so if someone is heading to Lisbon for a solo trip, they are reading someone who went to Lisbon as a solo traveller. Not a generic city guide. Contextually relevant, first-person experience from someone who went for the same reason they are going.
That is the whole idea. The honest version of a place, written by someone who was actually there, filtered so the right people find it. Whatever kind of trip you take and whoever you travel with, there is an audience on Travel Pen who wants to read exactly that.
If you write travel content and want to reach that audience, here is how it works. Pitch us your idea, we agree the angle, you create an account and publish it yourself. If it is good, we will promote it and give you a do-follow backlink to your site.
What you get
A do-follow backlink to wherever you want to send people, plus we will push it out across our channels. Your story stays on your profile. It is yours. We just help people find it.
Topics
What We're Looking For
- A trip you took and what you would tell someone heading the same way
- Backpacking routes and what the budget actually looked like
- The honest version of a destination — what is great, what is overhyped
- Road trips, slow travel, van life — how it actually felt
- Cultural experiences and the moments that stuck with you
- Practical guides — visas, transport, what to pack, what not to
- Adventure travel and the stuff that surprised you
If your story does not fit neatly into any of those, pitch it anyway. If it is honest and well-written, we are interested.
No judgement
Travel Pen has no interest in sanitised, inoffensive travel writing that could have been written by anyone. We want the real version. If you went somewhere and it was brilliant, say so. If it was a disaster, say that too. If it was complicated, write about the complication. The only rule is that it has to be true and it has to be yours.
Standards
Requirements
- Minimum 800 words — ideally 1,000–1,500 for pieces with real depth
- First-person perspective — you have to have actually been there
- At least one decent photo (you must own the rights)
- Correct spelling and grammar — we are not here to rewrite it for you
- Tag your destination and your reason for going
Not a fit
What We Won't Publish
- Listicles with no personal angle — "10 things to do in X" with no you in it
- Anything that reads like an ad
- AI-generated writing
- Content you have published elsewhere
- Anything unrelated to travel
How it works
The Process
Pitch your idea
Email us a short outline. The destination, your angle, a sentence on why you are the right person to write it. You went there. That is usually enough.
We agree the angle
We will come back within a few days. If it is a good fit, we will confirm and you can get writing.
Create an account and publish
Sign up, write your story on Travel Pen, add your photos, tag your destination and reason for going. Hit publish when you are happy with it.
We review, promote, and backlink
Once it is live we will check it against what we agreed. If it meets the bar, we will promote it across our channels and add your do-follow backlink.
Send us a pitch
Email admin@travelpen.io with the subject line "Guest Post". Keep it short. A paragraph is fine.
