What we aim for

TravelPen aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. To be straight with you: the site has not been through a formal accessibility audit, so this is a statement of intent and current practice, not a certified conformance claim.

What is in place

  • A “Skip to main content” link on every page, for keyboard users
  • Semantic headings and landmarks, so screen readers can navigate by structure
  • Keyboard access to navigation, forms, menus and dialogs
  • Visible focus outlines, never removed for decoration
  • Text alternatives on content images
  • A light and dark theme, both checked for text contrast
  • Text that reflows and stays readable when zoomed or on a narrow screen

Known gaps

Things we know are not right yet, rather than a list of things we have tested and passed:

  • The story editor is a rich-text editor built on a third-party component. Its keyboard and screen-reader support has not been verified and is likely the weakest part of the site.
  • The location picker depends on Google Maps, whose accessibility we do not control.
  • Images in contributor-written stories carry whatever alternative text the author provided, which is sometimes nothing.
  • No formal audit or assistive-technology testing has been carried out.

Telling us about a problem

If something on this site is hard or impossible to use, please email admin@travelpen.io. Say which page and what happened, and what you were using if you know it. Reports are read by the person who builds the site, and genuine barriers get prioritised over new features.

If you would rather not email, the contact form reaches the same place.
