Where we stayed
We stayed at Riverside Walk in a highly-rated, 3-bedroom holiday home in Whitby. Located roughly a mile from the town center, it features a balcony with river views, parking, and easy access to local coastal and river walks.
it was just a little far out to walk if you have young children who aren’t in pushchairs. No shops on your doorstep but Whitby have all the major supermarkets for supplies when your out and about.
It was lovely quiet area.
I think having the car was a bonus if your arriving on the train I would stay further into Whitby but this was a great base for exploring the area.
What we did
Day 1. We went to sandsend beach just beautiful and parking great also toilets and restaurants easily accessible. Really good for families.
Day 2. Explored Whitby parked at the west cliff played crazy golf in the morning and strolled down in to Whitby to catch some crabs from a line into a bucket this was amazing ( we released the crabs once we were done. Fish and chips followed by penny pushers and exploring the gift shops and Whitby Jet jewellery.
Day 3 we did robin hoods bay! More crazy golf slow coffees and watched the world go by and a walk along the beach
Day 4. We explored staithes .. walking along the beach .. coffee and cake ..
Where we ate and drank
I would advise eating in for fish and chips the seagulls are WILD we saw them swoop down and stole someone’s fish! We ate at “mister chips” the new restaurant is beautiful
We had coffee at Portside in Staithes the owner is amazing such a powerhouse! with the best selection of coffee ice cream and cakes!
What it cost
The accommodation was around £600 for 3 nights for a family of 4 in half term holidays. We are out and made pack lunch where we could.
Everywhere was pretty good for costings .. except fish and chips is not a “cheap” anymore so be prepared to pay to sit inside but 100% worth it.
The verdict
we are already planning our best break! Whitby is a great base so many shops restaurants cafes in one place. We didn’t do the Whitby museum but it looked amazing and perfect for a rainy afternoon the park outside the museum has not long been revamped and it is amazing, Whitby is a great base to explore the other villages on the coastline 100% recommend although can be a little busy in school holidays.
